KISS: Live at Rogers Arena Vancouver 2019
As a longtime KISS fan, I’ve been waiting for the first show of the tour and the inevitable full show YouTube video so I could evaluate the show, set list, and all the rest. The video above is a great shot of the first concert.
I’m impressed with the stage, but none of it really screams a celebration of 45 years of KISS. I’m terribly disappointed in the gags because there isn’t anything new here. The theatrics are the same. There isn’t enough different here at all. However to be fair, the stage does make up for some of the lack of imagination on old gags.
The outfits are great and look like a good combination of old and new. I’m really glad they created new ones instead of mining old looks.
As that aforementioned KISS fan, I am tired of the set list. It isn’t really a celebration of all eras of KISS, but more of KISS Alive!/Alive II plus some recent concert staples (Say Yeah, Lick It Up, Psycho Circus). I liked the inclusion of Hide Your Heart, but nothing off of Revenge is disheartening. I would like them to consider adding Hell or Hallelujah or Modern Day Delilah off of more recent albums, throw Hard Luck Woman in there for Eric to sing, and give Parasite or even Shock Me for Tommy to sing. Drop 100,000 Years and Let Me Go, Rock N Roll. Of course, if I want a cool deep cut set list I have to go on the KISS KRUISE where I can hear The Oath and Plaster Caster. I actually thought they might do a medley of obscure KISS songs just to appease some old school KISS fans like myself and freshen up the song choices. Oh well.
Ultimately, I won’t be going out of my way to see this tour. Eventually it will come to my backyard where I will get prime seats and pretend I’m 12 years old again.
